Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)-Main to become mandatory for all engineering institutes from 2018

Bringing in much relief for the engineering aspirants, the JEE Main examination is to become mandatory for all technical institutes from 2018, so that the students don’t have to face multiple admission tests for seeking entry to the engineering colleges. As per the information received from the sources, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is in the discussion to make it compulsory for all technical institutions to accept JEE-Main scores for admitting students. On the other hand, the students seeking admission into the IITs will have to appear for the JEE-Advance, conducted by the Joint Admission Board (JAB) of the premier technical institutes after the JEE-Main.

However, the institutes will be given a freedom to choose whether they want to consider the 20% or 40% weightage of XII class scores along with their JEE Main scores to admit students.
JEE Main is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education for admissions to the National Institutes of Technology and other centrally funded technical institutes. The JAB selects the top 1.50 lakh students from the All-India merit list of the JEE-Main for JEE-Advance who can then seek admission into the IITs.
