Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH) is a statutory apex body under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Department of AYUSH. It was set up by the Government of India in 1973 under Homoeopathy Central Council Act 1973 (59 of 1973). CCH monitors and controls Homoeopathic Medical Education in India.
Central Council of Homoeopathy, New Delhi introduced BHMS (Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine & Surgery) Degree course in 1983 with 12 (twelve) subjects like Anatomy, Physiology & Biochemistry, Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Community Medicine, Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology & Obstetrics, Pathology, Homoeopathic Pharmacy, Materia Medica, Organon of Medicine & Philosophy and Repertory with 51/2 years course. Now the same course is regulated by the amended BHMS Regulations 2015 with same course of duration with same subjects.
Presently there are 3 (three) Homoeopathic Medical Colleges in Assam in the Name of Swahid Jadav Nath Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Guwahati, Assam Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Nagaon and Dr. JK Saikia Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Jorhat. All 3 (three) Homoeopathic Medical Colleges in Assam are imparting BHMS Degree course.

ADMISSION INTO 1ST BHMS COURSE FOR THE SESSION 2015-16
A. Educational qualification: The candidate must have passed the Higher Secondary Examination (Science 10+2) or its equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology at the qualifying examination from a recognized Board/Council/University, in respect of candidates belonging to General category and 40% marks in respect of candidate belonging to SC/ST(P)/ST(H)/OBC/MOBC category of Assam.
B. Age: Not below 17 years and above 24 years on 31st December of the year in which the admission is sought for. The upper age limit will be relaxed for 3 (three) years in respect of candidate belonging to SC/ST(P)/ST(H)/OBC/MOBC category.
C. The candidates must be a Permanent Resident of Assam.
D. The candidate must have completed minimum 4 years schooling either at (i) HSLC or equivalent stage or HSLC and HSSLC or (ii) equivalent stages combined from the recognized schools conducting regular classes situated within the State of Assam. Provided that if the candidate has not done 4 years of schooling in the State then their Father or Mother must have completed his/her schooling in the State of Assam for a minimum period of 4 years in the School level inclusive of Primary/ ME/ HSLC. Provided further that nothing contained in the clause shall be applicable to the
sons and daughters of the officers of All India Services allotted to Assam.
E. Reservation of Seats: There shall be reservation of seats for SC, ST(P), ST(H), OBC/MOBC, Martyrs Quota, Char Area, TGL/Ex-TGL, Teacher/Ex-teacher and Exserviceman category from the total available seats as per Govt. Rules.
F. A candidate who desires to be considered under reserved category shall have to furnish certificates of the concerned category from the competent authority.
G. A candidate applying under Physically Handicapped category shall have to produce identity certificate from the State Level Medical Board/ District Level Medical Board as per Govt. Rules.
H. In case of candidate applying under Char Area category, the candidate must produce the certificate from competent authority i.e. from the Char Area Development Authority to be countersigned by the concerned Deputy Commissioner/ Sub-Divisional Officer certifying that area where the candidate generally resides is covered by the Char Area Development Authority of Assam. His parents must be from socially, economically and educationally backward family ordinarily residing in the area and not entitled to any other form of reservation and the name of his/ her parents is enrolled in the voter list of their respective Char Area Village to be countersigned by the Deputy Commissioner/ Sub divisional Officer of the concerned District/ Sub Division.
I. A candidate applying under TGL/ EX-TGL category shall have to produce certificate from the concerned Deputy Commissioner/ Sub-Divisional Officer to be countersigned by the Director of Tea Welfare, Govt. of Assam.
J. In case of candidate applying under Freedom Fighter’s Quota, the candidate must produce the certificate from competent authority i.e. Principal Private Secretary to the Chief Minister, Assam and a relation certificate of the candidate with the Freedom Fighter from the concerned Deputy Commissioner of the District.
K. A candidate applying under the teacher’s quota must be a son/ daughter of a teacher/ exteacher
of Homoeopathic Medical Colleges of Assam and have to produce relation certificate from the concerned Principal and countersigned by the Director of AYUSH or his authorized official.
